Meetings of the Executive members our local Council can be quite enlightening at times.
You may have heard that the Police are giving up trying to enforce parking regulations, because it costs them too much. The money from any fines they levy goes straight to central government.
Surrey County Council have agreed with Surrey Police to take over the enforcement because if they do it, they can keep the money.
You may think that there's a sort of natural justice here. Drivers who park illegally on Surreys roads will be fined and the money will go to benefit Surreys residents. Not quite.
Apparently our Conservative Council is perfectly happy to spend more of your money on collecting the fines than they'll be getting from them. How many of you are happy to subsidise people who park illegally?
Liberal Democrat Councils nationwide are making a profit out of illegal parking, which they plough back into public services.
