Years of under-investment in SCC buildings
The Tory administration at County Hall has been neglecting its buildings by failing to maintain them adequately. At the Budget meeting in February, the Liberal Democrats objected to the large reduction in the building maintenance budget as a short term approach that would prove to be more costly in the long run.
Furthermore it was recently revealed that the estimated cost of addressing the Conservative County Council's backlog of maintenance is £23.5M in respect of non-school buildings and £77.5M for school buildings.
The Tories are yet again burying their heads in the sand, hoping that the problem will go away rather than taking the necessary action to tackle the problem.
