Metrobus notice of bus rerouting

Lesbourne Road buses rerouted

In a letter dated 16th July, SCC say that they plan to make Lesbourne Road (B2034), One Way only, from West to East, between Bell Street to Howard Road, for a three month period from 30th July, to enable a Gas Main replacement. West bound buses will not be able to use the usual route. Metrobus have not made any adjustment or allowance for passengers of the 420 & 460 buses wanting to travel towards the junction of Lesbourne Road and Bell Street and the SCC letter fails to mention any of the details. This is a great inconvenience for passengers with mobility problems.

The text of the SCC letter follows.

THE SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL LESBOURNE ROAD (B2034) REIGATE TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT MEASURES ORDER 2007.

SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL PROPOSE TO MAKE the above mentioned Temporary Traffic Order, under 14(1 )(a) and (7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to:

Impose a one-way system for all vehicular traffic in the entire length of Lesbourne Road (B2034) Reigate from west to east.

The exemption from this one-way system will be for any vehicle being used for ambulance fire brigade or police purposes in an emergency, anything done upon the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform or any person who causes any vehicle to proceed in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed by the Police.

The order is required to enable Morrison PLC to carry out works in connection with the renewal of a gas main. It is anticipated that the works will be completed within three months of the twelve-month period of the order, which is due to commence on 30th July 2007 but even that period can be extended by Surrey County Council if required. However the one-way system will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

Westbound vehicles will be diverted via Howard Road (D1220) Parkgate Road (D1220) and Bell Street (A217) to the western end of the one way system. Westbound H.C.V.s will be diverted via Reigate Road (A25) Church Street (A25) Bancroft Road (A217) and Bell Street (A217) to the western end of the one way system.
