Reduce, Re-use & Recycle
Finally, after years of residents and Reigate Lib Dems battling to have a comprehensive re-cycling service for this Borough, we are going to get one! The Tories have to meet challenging re-cycling targets set by the Government. Plastic, glass and kitchen waste will soon join the other recyclables collected from your door using the service introduced by the Lib Dems in the early 1990's.
The plan is to :
Continue the weekly collection of Paper, Card and Cans, and
introduce a weekly collection of Plastics, Glass and Kitchen Waste.
Residents will be issued with three stacking boxes for the dry recyclates and a pair of caddies for the kitchen waste.
Although the subscription based garden waste collection will continue, the council will be encouraging households to compost as much of it as possible themselves.
The collection of non-recyclable waste will in most cases be fortnightly from a wheeled bin.
Conservative Surrey County Council will be aiming for a 70% recycling County target overall. Tory controlled Reigate & Banstead Borough Council have only increased the Borough recycling rate from over 20% to the upper 30's since they took back control from the Lib Dems in the 90's.
