Free Christmas Parking

The suggestion of 'Free Parking to help the local economy' by Lib Dem Councillor Graham Norman has been grudgingly adopted by the Tory controlled Borough Council in the run-up to Christmas. There will now be two free parking days.

Graham suggested Free Parking at a Borough Council meeting on the 23rd of July during a debate on the economic downturn.

Although the suggestion was met by the Conservative Council Leader with enthusiasm in front of the residents in the Public Gallery at the time, he was later told that it wouldn't happen because it would cost too much.

We have to remember that this Tory Council is cutting services and costs to help the Tories with next year's General election campaign. It's been told to deliver a 'Zero' Council Tax increase.

Now we hear that on Saturday 5th December, all spaces in Bancroft Road, Bell Street and Upper West Street car parks in Reigate will be free.

Also, on Saturday 19th December there will be over 600 free parking spaces in Council car parks in Redhill at Gloucester Road, Marketfield Road, Clarendon Road and Linkfield Corner, and the Victoria Road, Library and Central car parks in Horley will provide shoppers with another.

Please note that there will be no monitoring or time limit as well as no payment, so please don't clog up the car parks longer than necessary.
