Buses will stop near you
Hundreds of bus users in Reigate, Meadvale and St Johns have been waiting anxiously for the outcome of the recent bus review by Surrey County Council and I am happy to write with some good news!
Under the initial proposals, the 324 bus was due to be withdrawn, and the 430/435 re routed leaving residents in Meadvale and St Johns with no bus service at all.
As many of you know, I spoke out strongly against these cuts both in the Surrey Mirror and at Council meetings. Some of you signed the petition to save the 324 and others objected individually to the Council.
It seems the Council listened!
The 324 bus, which was due to be withdrawn, will now operate with increased frequency and will also serve Meadvale, St Johns and East Surrey Hospital, plugging the gap left by the re routing of the 430/435 which will now be combined into a roughly circular route via Reigate.
Liberal Democrats are committed to ensuring that Surrey residents keep the bus services they rely on. Not all bus routes can be commercially viable but unlike the Conservatives, we do not think this means they should be withdrawn and we will fight for subsidies where needed.
You can see the details of the final proposals on the SCC website or I will be happy to explain them to you in person. It is always a pleasure to hear from you.
Thank you for your continued support.
