Nasty Masty Eyesore
Residents living around the junction of Clarence Road and Pendleton Road in Meadvale, Redhill are relived that an application for a new Telephone Mast has been rejected by Reigate and Banstead Planning Committee.
Lib Dem Councillors Steve Kulka and Graham Norman convinced the committee that the mast would have been unnecessary, unduly prominent and harmful to the the character of the area.
They also made the point that the process is very 'one-sided' and unfair for the local community. The mobile telephone companies make £Millions out of these masts which cause great concern and distress to residents. The companies however are not required to make any financial compensation to the community as other developers do. Councillor Kulka suggested that the legislation should be changed to force Mobile companies to fall in line. A point accepted by the Executive Member for Planning Policy, who promised to raise the issue with central government.
