Vote for Reigate Liberal Democrats increases by over 50% in local elections on last years results.

Jane Kulka, Reigate Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate commenting on this years elections said, "The benefit of having a Liberal Democrat candidate in every available ward meant that even more people had the opportunity to vote for a fair, honest and progressive party. I was particularly pleased to see our share of the vote had improved yet again. The number of Liberal Democrat votes across the Borough rose from 5599 in 2003 to 8463 this year, an increase of well over 50%"

Whilst our campaign team was unable to win any new seats this time, we achieved over 24% of all the votes in the Borough, compared to only 11% for Labour.

Liberal Democrats are now firmly in second place, a great platform for next years County Council and General Election.

Even though we polled almost a quarter of the Borough wide vote, out of the 51 Councillors we only have 5. The Tories have 37 and Labour have 3.

If we had Proportional representation, the Council would be far more balanced with Tories 24, Lib Dems 12, Labour 6 and others 9.

The 2004 European election results saw us move up to 12 MEPs, compared to 10 in 1999.

Against the backdrop of a cut in the overall number of UK MEPs from 87 to 78, and large falls in the number of Labour and Conservative MEPs, this is a particularly significant achievement.
