Reigate Lib Dems try one more time to get the Council to reduce energy use.11.10.00pm GMT Thu 10th Dec 2009 Cllr. Steve Kulka has used the Council Motion procedure to request that Reigate and Banstead Borough Council sign up support the 10:10 campaign, to cut Council emissions by 10% within 12 months. He also asked to council to urge staff, members, residents and service users to do the same and that the Councils progress should be posted in the public domain. The Council has postponed making a decision until the next meeting of the Executive in January. The Portfolio holding members of the Executive will then decide if the motion can then be debated at the February meeting of the Full Council. The Council accepted the Lib Dems recommendation to incorporate a Ground Source Heat Pump in the new Reigate Priory Cafe which uses renewable energy for heating and cooling and therefore saves residents money. In April 2007, Cllr. Steve Kulka asked the Council to :- Encourage renewable energy efficiency upgrade requests and remove Planning charges, Display useful sources of energy efficiency information on the Council website, and Carry out an energy audit to discover the best ways to reduce it's own energy consumption and carbon footprint and Implement beneficial changes. Since then the Council has done very little.
