High house prices restrict who can live here.

Last weeks meeting of the full Council at the Town Hall, included as part of the agenda a debate among Councillors titled 'The State of the Borough'.

Part of the debate briefly addressed the need for more affordable housing.

The leader of the Council, Joan Spiers summing up response was short and quite telling. "People on the waiting list should stop smoking or move up north, where there is more housing."

Unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to question her further, but it seems that there is a clear message from the Borough Conservatives to anyone not wealthy enough to afford Surreys expensive houses.

You are not welcome.
